There are more than 1.6 million elderly and disabled residents of nursing homes in the United States.  We believe these residents deserve to live their senior years as comfortably as possible, free from neglect and abuse.  Unfortunately, elderly residents do sometimes suffer neglect and abuse at these facilities.  This occurs for many reasons, including mismanagement, inadequate and incomplete training and supervision of staff, staff shortages, and the simple failure of these facilities to properly research the past criminal records of their employees.  Such abuse and neglect can cause serious injuries, sometimes leading to wrongful death.

Atlanta nursing home abuse can take several forms, including physical, emotional and psychological, sexual, financial, and simple neglect.  Indications of abuse and neglect can include:

  • Unexplained bruises
  • Bedsores
  • Untreated medical conditions
  • Dehydration
  • Malnutrition
  • Broken bones
  • Lack of personal hygiene
  • Ongoing odor of human waste
  • Frequent falls
  • Infections

Additionally, staff may become overly defensive and blame residents if these signs appear.  This too may be an indicator that abuse or neglect has occurred.

If you suspect your loved one is being or has been abused or neglected, please call our office and speak to one of our nursing home abuse attorneys.  We have the knowledge and resources to properly investigate these issues.  Our Atlanta injury lawyers can help you understand if the care being provided is what you expect, and more importantly, what is required, and can help you determine if you are entitled to compensation.
